Castle and Beckett

• When I started shipping it
  The pilot. I mean, is this really a question for them? Is it physically possible for anyone to not ship them from the pilot? The pilot sets up the perfect perfect perfect premise. They are two obviously different characters with different motivations, yet both are fascinating and are on par with their intelligence and passion. I think with this element alone, this ship is bound to sail. But the moment that really cemented the start of this beautiful relationship is the STOP AND STAREEEEEE part of the pilot, which I’m sure all of you agree with.
  
  Castle is his usual pre-Beckett self and he asks her out for dinner, in a way that is almost habitual for him, but I do think he really finds her intriguing. But the banter is immediately evident; Beckett is always going to be challenging him - “So I can be another one of your conquests?” “Or I could be one of yours.” Immediately, there is recognition of Beckett as a strong-willed and badass character. There is no objectification on both their parts. They were always so intellectually on par. AND THEN Beckett being Beckett takes him completely by surprise by leaning in and whispering “You have no idea.”
  
  THIS dynamic is then elaborated on throughout the whole show, and it’s amazing. You see that Beckett doesn’t back down from him, she challenges him but in a way that tells him he really had no idea what he was doing until he met her. The way she sashayed away and the pure admiration on Castle’s face at the end just MAKES ME WANT TO BAWL. This is ESPECIALLY VOMIT-INDUCING when you think about the LA episode and you realise that STOP AND STAREEEE moment in the pilot has really laid the foundation and continued to shape the next few seasons of the show, and you really believe Castle was thinking about what a mystery Beckett was.  
• My thoughts
  Lol, I’m going to spare all of you and subsume this under ‘what makes me happy about them.’
  
  
•  What makes me happy about them
  Omg, guys. Even talking about Castle and Beckett ALONE makes me happy. I think the most important thing that makes me happy about them is their epic love story. I’m always so fascinated by the fact that Castle saved Beckett with his words way before he met her. I love that he was there for her even before he knew her, so that Beckett could take refuge in the characters and worlds he created. I just find that so lovely. And the fact that her favourite author is now BASING A BOOK SERIES ON HER. I mean, does it get any more romantic than that? He finds her so fascinating and inspiring that he’s BASING A BOOK SERIES ON HER (yes, it bears repeating.) I think that’s just the most amazing form of homage and admiration. Linchpin revealed that even before Castle met Beckett, he was dreaming about an ideal character that is JUST LIKE HER. And then he met her. I mean, seriously, does it get more epic than that? I just think that THEY ADMIRE EACH OTHER SO MUCH.
  
  And they LIKE EACH OTHER SO MUCH (I’m stealing Rachna’s words here.) They so enjoy each other’s company and are so intellectually stimulated by the other person. They are always equals and they always complement each other. And then of course I absolutely love it that they transcend the relationship of author and muse. I think I love this part the most. They fact that it’s not about the books anymore. He cares about Beckett as a person, and not as a character. I love it. They are partners. 
  
  
• What makes me sad about them
  The lack of talking. I think that their relationship is very epic, yes. But it’s ALL KINDS OF UNHEALTHY. Andrew Marlowe once said that their dirty little secret is that C and B are already together, and in many ways, that is true. Talking about their future by proxy, being there for each other, saving each other, being JEALOUS of exes and hot insurance investigators. I mean, they already are together in the parts they play in the other’s life. But, there is so little ACTUAL CONCRETE COMMUNICATION. I love the subtext and all, but a relationship cannot survive on subtext. I think this is something that was perfect for Linchpin to explore, but I shall stop myself here because I’ve ranted enough but that episode. I think they need to start communicating and being honest at this point to move on in their relationship. I understand that it’s hard because of those secrets they are keeping from one another (and I absolutely anticipate the beautiful angst that’s going to come out of it,) so I guess I’ll continue to wait for Marlowe’s cue.  
  
  
• Things done in fanfics that annoy me
  I don’t read all that many fanfics and when I do they are usually recommended, so there aren’t that many things done that annoy me. I do dislike it when either of them become OOC, though. 
  
  
• Things I look for in a fanfic
  One word: ANGST. Recommend away, people! (Also, Brittany knows what I’m talking about with my fic rec skills.) 
  
  
•  Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other
  LOL I’ve always thought that Beckett and Javi are a good match, if Castle had not come round. I mean, seriously, I side-shipped them since Beckett threw that pencil at Esposito in 2.03. I didn’t ship them after Kill Shot, because I saw their interactions as friendly, but the potentiality of the ship just interests me. For Castle, not anyone on the show. Or Alexis, lol. 
  
  
• My happily ever after for them
  I don’t need them married or with kids. I just want them to be officially together with communication and honesty, the same thing I wish for all my ships. And I want them to completely transcend the scars of the past and the mistakes made in the Johanna Beckett arc.  
  
  
• Who is the big spoon/little spoon
  Big spoon is Castle, because ultimately I feel like Beckett just needs someone she wants to be protected and embraced by. She’s fine on her own, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like apart from her independence, the perfect guy is also someone she’s willing to be protected by. And Castle is sweet on her, makes him brave.
  
  
• What is their favourite non-sexual activity
  Their banter, their working together to solve cases, their constant allusions to sexual activity. Lol.
